Wendy B McDonald
Inducted 2001
Wendy McDonald, a native of British Columbia, was born and reared on
a farm in North Vancouver and began her business career when her
husband gave her power of attorney for his fledgling machine shop at
the beginning of World War II. Even with two small children, Wendy
McDonald managed to work and to keep the business going by meeting
local suppliers and familiarizing herself with the administrative
end of the company. In 1944, BC Bearing came into its own when she
incorporated BC Bearing Engineers Ltd., maintaining Northern Metals
and Engineering Company as a machine shop. Under her guidance, BC
Bearing has become Canada’s largest distributor of bearing and power
transmission products, and now operates from 39 locations in five
countries, serving clients in the Pacific Rim and Europe. In
addition to managing a highly successful business enterprise, Mrs.
McDonald devotes time to community service and professional
organizations. The BC Bearing Group of Companies is truly a family
endeavor, with four of Wendy’s ten children and one grandchild
actively involved in its operation.
