Scott DeGarmo
Inducted 1992
Scott
DeGarmo became Editor in Chief of SUCCESS Magazine in April, 1984,
and quickly turned it into the fastest growing business magazine in
the country – one that addresses the needs of entrepreneurs and
those serving the booming entrepreneurial market.
Self-employed business owners of companies comprised only 4 percent
of the readership of SUCCESS when DeGarmo took over. Today, that
category comprises 89% of the readers of the magazine. Syndicated
research also shows that SUCCESS is read more thoroughly by its
readers than are other business publications – nearly 30 percent
reported reading SUCCESS from cover to cover, a figure unmatched by
any similar publication.
Since taking over the magazine, DeGarmo has doubled its circulation,
to its current level of 400,000. On the newsstand, SUCCESS outsells
all other business magazines. DeGarmo and his wife, Barbara, an
editor, live in New York City and two children, Madden and Julia.
