It was in 1963, after a successful career in direct sales, that Mary Kay Ash retired from her job, and on a Friday the 13th, founded her company, which bears her name. This company now includes more than 850,000 independent beauty consultants in 33 worldwide markets. Her philosophy of living and conducting business was the Golden Rule, and her mission was to enrich women’s lives. She received the first annual National Sales Award from the Sales and Marketing Executives of New York. She was listed as one of America’s 25 Most Influential Women by the World Almanac. She was recognized as the Most Outstanding Woman in Business in the 20th Century by Lifetime Television. Fortune Magazine recognized her company as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For.
