Gary Story
Inducted 2003
At the age of 16, Gary Story applied for a
position as part of the rides crew at the new Six Flags theme park
in Eureka, Missouri, and spent a few years sweeping pathways and
emptying trashcans. A hard worker, he was promoted to management
and held positions in what is now Six Flags Mexico; Sydney,
Australia’s Luna Park; and Oklahoma City’s Frontier City. Today, 30
years after he started, he is President and Chief Operating Officer
of Six Flags, Inc., the world’s largest theme and water park
operator. He is responsible for marketing, retail, food service,
safety and security for 39 properties in 8 countries. He is
Chairman-elect of the International Association of Amusement Parks
and Attractions, and involved nationally with the Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation, the Boy Scouts of America, and UNICEF. A
graduate of the University of Missouri, he and his family are all
avid theme park enthusiasts, purchasing general admission tickets
just like the rest of us.
